The Power of Prayer

Categories: Uncategorized

You need to pray.

This may not come as a surprise to you.  But please allow me to remind you what you already know.  Prayer is the most power thing that you can do!  However, many of us get our information about the world from friends and family.  Often they may say things that injure us or limit our potential.  Others of us get information from the news, or television, or random sites on the internet.  This type of behavior will have our minds skipping from tragedy to tragedy.

Put another way–it is easy for us to relinquish the control over our minds, spirits, bodies, and yes, even our very destinies.  We do this because it is easy for us to undervalue what has been given to us freely.  We did nothing to earn our mind, spirits and bodies.  Therefore, it is easy for us to look for external sources for knowledge and truth.

I want you to know that God has given you power over your destiny!  It is already in your possession.  This is a very difficult teaching to accept.

There are people who believe things like:

  • You pay for what you get.
  • It takes money to make money.
  • You don’t get something for nothing.

Perhaps, you, yourself hold some of these beliefs.

But this is not what Jesus teaches us.  Jesus said, this is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, because he abides with you, and he will be in you” (John 14:17).  One may be left wondering why Jesus has given us something that the world cannot accept.  Jesus is using the concept of “the world” (greek = Kosmos) to mean a system of thought that does not include divine intervention in human affairs.  Jesus teaches us that God is not far away in outer space judging us.  No.  God is with us.  The beautiful gift of the Holy Spirit is with us and it is free.  It is a gift freely given by God to give us power and strength.  Through the power of the Holy Spirit, all we need to do is go to God in prayer and we will have everything we request.

Jesus wants you to know that prayer requires the appropriate mental and spiritual dispositions.  If you love Jesus, then you will understand how much God loves you and how much God loves all of creation.  Prayer requires you to open yourself to love and see that God is good!

Ask for what you want with single-mindedness and unwavering faith that it will be granted and it shall be so!  That is the power of prayer.
